Background

I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2014, after spending the majority of my career in the mental health field. I graduated from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Master’s degree in Community Mental Health Counseling and hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology.

I have received training in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Grief therapy and Trauma therapy, as well as other treatment modalities. While my academic training and knowledge inform and are foundational to the therapeutic process, my greatest teachers have been my clients. Their willingness to use the knowledge gained in therapy to develop insights, understanding and behavioral strategies, and weave that together with courage and vulnerability to experience meaningful change and purposeful living, is why I believe in the power of the therapeutic process and the resiliency of the human spirit.

Philosophy of Care

As we work together for growth and meaningful change, you will find our sessions to be a joint effort in addressing the challenges that brought you to therapy. I am engaged, interactive and give thoughtful purposeful feedback. I believe therapy is a collaborative process and I am intentional about developing an open and respectful relationship with my clients. Research indicates that establishing a strong therapeutic alliance is fundamental to facilitating growth and change so the therapeutic relationship is pivotal for achieving positive, long-lasting results.

I have received training in an array of treatment modalities and my therapeutic approach integrates interventions to develop a course of treatment that works best for your individual needs. Depending on your concerns and therapeutic goals, I may integrate cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, mindfulness-meditation and interpersonal-based interventions.

I am likely to assign exercises between sessions and provide education related to the mind/body connection to “demystify” the therapeutic process. I will emphasize the ability we all have to change and that each of us, with meaningful intention, can shift how we experience and relate to ourselves, others and our circumstances. I will also emphasize the importance of emotional agility and the adverse effects that patterns of rigidity have on our overall emotional and mental wellness.

Our work together will be twofold: Acquiring knowledge, information, and skills that increase confidence in your ability to manage challenges between sessions, and deepening the therapeutic alliance through mindful presence to open a sacred space where trust can grow and you can be known without judgment. This twofold purpose will help you develop a new understanding of your experiences and further your insight into how the past informs the present. I consider our collaboration a privileged journey as you move toward wellness, wholeness, and hope.
